A Greener Michigan

time to go green clock

Do you want to do your part to see a greener Michigan?  Good, because it really is time to go green, so let's see how we can all help out.

A good place to start is the  Michigan Green web site.  This is a non-profit group working to further the cause of renewable energy and energy efficiency in the state of Michigan.  They are made up of colleges, universities, individuals as well as government agencies and energy consultants.  This is a good place to become a member and get involved.

Part of creating a greener Michigan consists of changing the way we buy disposable products.  We need to be thinking more about what goes into our landfills, and for many of us, we just do not know the alternatives.  At  Michigan Green Safe Products  you can learn about eco beverage cups, biodegradable food containers and lots of other really boring stuff, but come on, if you are going to be green this boring stuff is really important.

Another critical part of going green and teaching sustainable living practices is to start in the schools.  This is the stuff we need to be teaching our kids, at an early age.  If you have kids in school please visit the Michigan Green School  site and make sure your local schools are doing all they should be.  Teachers and Parents are a critical part of teaching our youth the path towards a greener tomorrow.

The U.S. Green Building sites are always fascinating and the  West Michigan Chapter is no exception.  This is a good place to learn how to become more involved.  You can also learn about green jobs and about all the wonderful builders in your state that are making a difference.  The mission is to "provide and develop leadership for environmental sustainability in green building and community development through strategic affiliations and comprehensive proactive educational opportunities at all levels".  With a mission like that you know they be needing a lot of help.  Sign up for the newsletter, become a member and donate some time or some money.  Anyway you can help, it's all good.

These are just a few of the ways you can make a difference and help build a greener Michigan.  I know there is a lot more going on in Michigan, so please take a moment and let us know.  The more you get the word out the more help you will get.

What are you doing in your town?

Tell us about your club, activity or event. Where are you, when do you meet, what are you doing green in your community? Do you have a special event coming up? We would like to do our part to help you get the word out.
