Arizona Energy Rebates

For Arizona residents there has never been a better time to look into alternative sources of energy for your home.  It is also an excellent time to upgrade your refrigeration unit and change your light bulbs.  This page will take a look at some of the Arizona energy rebates available to you.

I recently visited a local appliance dealer to replace my microwave.  I was struck by an add for solar water heaters so I took a few minutes to get the low down.  They explained to me how, not only is the system free, I will be making money before the payment is due.  Here is how it breaks down and how you can be saving money on your electric bill with no money out of pocket.

green money sign The system cost, installation included, is $4500.00.  Your utility company, in this case, Salt River Project, sends you a rebate check of $1257.50.  When it comes time to file your taxes you receive a $1350.01 federal credit and a $1000.00 state tax credit.  If you add the estimated yearly energy savings of $400.00 to the utility rebate and the tax credits your total is $4007.51.  At the years end I owe $4500.00 for the system with an out of pocket cost of 492.49.  This amount will be recouped in a little over a years time with a reduced electric bill, and every year after you can expect a $400.00 dollar savings.  So where is my solar water heater with no out of pocket costs?  You need to be in the Arizona Public Service district for that because they offer a $1866.25 rebate, meaning you will have actually saved $136.26 before the system payment is due.

Either way it's a great deal, and solar water heaters are just one way to benefit from Arizona energy rebates.  A/C units are another way to take advantage of this surplus of free money.  I am looking at an add for an A/C unit that reads like this.

Trade-in Cash Back Money - $500.00
Preferred Client Incentive - $500.00
Manufacture Rebate - $1700.00
Federal Tax Credit  - $1500.00
Utility Rebate - $525.00

Totaling $4725.00, that is more than the cost of the new unit and payment is deferred for one year.  The deals are out there and it does not take much searching to find them.

Salt River Project offers rebates for A/C units and Heat Pumps ranging from $200.00 - $400.00.  They estimate a yearly savings, after installing energy efficient units, of around $1000.00 depending on the size of your home.  The solar water heater incentive is $1,300.00 with a yearly savings of $234.00. For a home solar electric system the incentive is  $13,500 with a possible yearly savings of $720.00.

Over at Arizona Public Service the energy rebates look like this. A solar electric (photovoltaic) system is eligible for a $12,000.00 incentive.  For a solar water heater you can expect $1300.00.  A wind energy system could make you eligible for $12500.00.

help the earth Be sure to check with your utility provider before making a major purchase in solar energy or large appliances.  Check all the requirements before you sign any contracts.  Most of these Arizona energy rebates require the equipment be installed by a licensed contractor.  Other stipulations will apply so check all the fine print to be sure you get what you expect, when you expect it.
