Composting is a no brainer for me. With several flower beds and a large vegetable garden, I compost anything that I can.
I save all the meal scraps for the compost, most of the smaller cuttings and trimming after yard work along with some grass clippings. I compost all year long then in the spring I turn the compost into the vegetable garden to enrich the soil. (I usually have wonderful vegetables.)
I never use any sort of chemicals or spray on any of the gardens and have never really had a big problem. The chipmonks usually help themselves to several nibbles of tomatoes, the deer lean over the fence to sample whatever they can reach, and the foxes just stare through the fence wishing they could get something.
I think coffee grounds are a particularly good compost items since most people brew at least a pot of coffee a day. I happen to think that worms LOVE coffee grounds. The more worms the better for breaking down the bigger stuff.
Composting is so easy that anyone can do it. Dump your food scraps and garden trimmings, turn over once every few weeks, and water on occasion. (That helps to speed up the decay process.
Happy composting!
