Cycling more

by Rona

Now that I don't have to taxi the kids around any more, I'm getting back into cycling.

It's so much fun and such a great way to get exercise while going about the daily tasks. Unfortunately, there is as yet no decent cycle route into town, so I've joined a local cycling group to press for better facilities. I've also helped to start a local transition town initiative and we organized a mass cycle ride for the October 24th International Day of Climate Action (leading up to the December climate summit in Copenhagen).

We did it as part of the 350.org campaign for setting the target of 350ppm carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. At present it is at 386ppm and rising! Scientists and governments world wide are starting to embrace this new target.

The bike ride was a great success and we wound up at the local community garden which then planted 230 tulips for the occasion.

Hoping to ditch the car before long!
