Are you looking for ways to be green in Missouri, to use less energy and save
some money? When you go green you not only help the
environment, you live a healthier live and you save money. These are all
good things, so let's see how to get started. If you already know all there
is about going green then share with us where the help is needed, where can
newcomers be used to make a difference.
Volunteers are needed in all areas of greening the state, and so are employees. The Green Collar Blog is their to assist you in finding green jobs in Missouri. Many topics are covered on this site including green job training and education, green career books, green job fairs and events as well as green recruiters. Green jobs are the jobs of the future so if you are forced into re-jobbing this is an area to consider. More job information can be found in the Missouri Green Jobs Report.
The Missouri Heartland Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council has an interesting site. In the events section you can learn about green drinks, greening the heartland and the Ozarks New Energy Conference. Also on the site are pages about events, how to join and list of members. You will also find on the site resources for working green and how you can create a more sustainable society through networking and becoming more involved.
Have you heard of recycling? Of course, but do you do it? I know it can be a little hard finding the right places to take you stuff to but it is always important to try. The Missouri Recycling Association should be able to point you in the right direction. There is lots of other pretty cool stuff on this site including a list of fluorescent lamp recycling sites. You are using CFLs, aren't you? They use about ten percent of the energy as regular bulbs and last ninety percent longer. The only thing is they contain a small amount of mercury and should be properly recycled.
The rural areas of Missouri are great places to get involved in solar and wind power. Check into all the money available through rebates and tax incentives and you just may find the time is right for you to start saving money by using renewable energy.
