Green In New Hampshire

time to go green clock Did you know it's time to go green in New Hampshire?  It truly is, so let's get started.  Going green does not mean you have to be a fanatic, it just means you need to start doing a few things differently.  It means you need to start being a little more aware of your environment and a little more aware of some of the consequences your actions have on it.  The first step is just taking the time to learn a little bit about the term "green" and why it might be important to you, your family and the state of New Hampshire.

The New Hampshire Sustainable Energy site is good place to start your journey towards green.  Their goal is to help everyone in New Hampshire who are interested in energy issues.  This includes homeowners, business owners and people in the government.  They sponsor activities like the Green Buildings Open House, alerts on energy related bills, workshops and much more.  They also provide a Resource Guide for all of you wanting to life a more sustainable life.

Sites like Green Concord will be popping up all over the web in years to come.  Living the green life means changing your shopping habits.  You will be seeking out places where you can buy organically grown food, you will be looking for merchants that are locally owned.  These local green guides will become an important part of you life, and the lives of many other people looking for eco-friendly places to shop.

It is my opinion, and that of many others, that the schools are the best places to teach sustainable living.  The country is building green schools, training green teachers and raising green students.  It is really exciting to look around a see what's being done.  If you have any thoughts at all to going green in New Hampshire, think about the schools, think about the schools your children attend.  These are good places to start.  Grade schools are catching on and so are high schools.  So are colleges, and New Hampshire has one to be very proud of.

The University of New Hampshire has the oldest endowed sustainability program in higher education in the United States.  These programs center around biodiversity, climate education, food and society and culture.  Visit the  University Office of Sustainability  and see everything your local school is doing and has plans to do.

Hopefully you agree it's time to be green, if so, let us know how you are doing it, and where our efforts are needed.
