Are you ready to go green? It is time you know, it's time to go green in
Pennsylvania, and we are going to help you get started. If you all ready
are green and active, help me out and list some ways others can get involved.
We need all the help we can get.
I want to mention the work of the Pennsylvania Green Growth Partnership, not because it's the place for beginners to start, but to show you how big this thing really is. The PAGGP "creates strategic partnerships between industry, university, economic investment groups and non-profits to solidify and grow the Commonwealth's position as a national leader in the rapidly emerging green building marketplace". Now that's a big statement, and what's even more impressive is their list of core members like the Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southern Pennsylvania, Carnegie Mellon University, Penn State University, University of Pittsburgh and more. They are all taking this green thing pretty seriously.
Anyone currently in the trades, or those interested in green jobs, would find this site interesting. The Green Building Association promotes environmentally responsible design, planning and construction for a greener Pennsylvania.
University web sites always amaze me with the high quality of information they produce. The Center for Sustainability at Penn State is one of those sites. Here are just a few of the topics covered on this site, What is a green business, why purchase green products, a Pennsylvania green merchants guide, how to green your home, buy fresh buy local campaign and much more. After spending a few hours on this site you should be ready to get out and start greening the state.
Hopefully by now you understand that going green effects all aspects of your life. You start in your home by stopping the air leaks and adding some solar. You change the way you get around town by driving less, maybe walking more, or investing in electric transportation. You work with the schools to create healthier learning environments for our children and you work with teachers to make sure sustainable living is being taught at every grade level. You join a group or two where you work in the community on recycling, expos or gardening projects. Your life changes and you become healthier and Pennsylvania becomes a greener place to live. Hopefully, as you go green in Pennsylvania you will stop back and let us know how it's going.
Tell us about your club, activity or event. Where are you, when do you meet, what are you doing green in your community? Do you have a special event coming up? We would like to do our part to help you get the word out.
