Green In South Dakota

time to go green clock Have you heard it's time to go green in South Dakota?  Are you doing your part to help?  If not, maybe we can give you a little nudge in the right direction by showing you some of the exciting things happening in your state and in your town.

SD Green  is a site looking to be on top of everything green in South Dakota with emphasis on green/local businesses, events and opportunities.  In the energy section of the site you will find info and links to the SD University where they are researching photovoltaics, a listing of South Dakota incentives for renewable energy and neat stuff about the Bike to Work Day, the Cycle SD and Soy Biodiesel.  These are just a few of the topics covered here, well worth some of your time.

The South Dakota Department of Labor has been awarded two and a half million dollars for green jobs training.  This grant was open to all fifty states but awarded to South Dakota, very nice indeed.  Visit the site to learn how you can get retrained in a green career, a career where you will be in high demand for many years to come.

Teaching about sustainable living and renewable energy in our schools is a very important topic for me.  Teaching our youth good habits before they have the chance to create bad ones is a good way to green our nation.  Green Schools are better learning environments and green teachers are better teachers.  Green parents can play a role also.  This page,  Schools Are Going Green, lists fifty ways our schools can be green.  This is an excellent source of ideas for turning your local schools green.  The University of South Dakota is mentioned in this article because a portion of their electricity is coming from a wind farm.

It is becoming very difficult these days to watch the news and not hear something about green, or to read the daily paper and not find a green article.  Trust me, builders are going green, lawmakers are going green, doctors are gong green and every where I look someone else is going green.  This is good, very good, because it is time to go green.  Let us know how you are greening the state of South Dakota.
