Green In Wyoming

time to go green clock Are you going green in Wyoming?  Many others are, so let's see if we can get you in the game.  It really is easy, you just learn a little, you make a few changes in your life, then you get out and spread the word.  Let's take a look at what other Wyoming residents are doing.

The Wyoming Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing Wyoming's participation in green building and sustainable living.  On this site you can learn about the LEED certification program and your local buildings that have been rated.  This is also a site for finding the movers and shakers in the green building industries working to make Wyoming a healthier place to live.  The calendar will let you know of any interesting events or workshops in the future.  The Green Council's state sites are packed full of local building information and can also be good places to get information about green jobs.

Visit Lower Valley Energy to learn about green power and how you can receive 100% green power.  Also so on this site are many different ways to reduce your electric bill.  Click on conservation and learn about energy audits, weatherization incentives, Energy Star Appliance rebate program and much more.  Learn about all the alternative energy options and the rebates and incentives that are available.  This is all part of going green, going green at home first.

When your home is set you then need to take a look at how you buy things, where and how you spend your money.  Are you  shopping green?  Pay particular attention to some of these key points to shopping, like by products that are not heavily packaged with plastic.  Consider also how far the product has to travel from production to sales.  The less travel the better.  Consider also the materials used to make the product like 100% organic cotton or organically grown.  Buying local products from local merchants is an important part of being green.  The benefits are better, healthier products, a stronger local economy and a greener state.

Hopefully when you gain the knowledge necessary you will take the message to your local schools, local churches and other community organizations.  Get involved in sustainable activities and work to reduce your carbon footprint.  As you do, let us know how you are going green in Wyoming.
