Green Jobs In Arizona

Economic incentives are bringing green jobs to Arizona.  The latest green jobs in Arizona are being provided by Rioglass Solar.  They are a Spain based company looking to make their U.S. headquarters in Arizona.

The plant will bring about a hundred jobs and fifty million dollars to the Valley of the Sun.  A second phase is also planned that will bring an additional hundred or so green jobs.

Rioglass is one of six large scale solar companies that will be calling Phoenix home thanks in part to Recovery Act funding.  All total, about thirty million dollars will be coming to the Phoenix area, in the forms of solar equipment companies.

Arizona governor Jan Brewer says this is what she hopes to be just the start, she would like to see the Phoenix area become the "solar capital of the world".

Additional funding for this project was given by the state's tax-incentive program and the city of Surprise.  Surprise offered infrastructure upgrades that will include electrical needs and a rail line.  All total, the city is putting up about $865, 000.  Another $290, 000 in infrastructure and review fees.

Rioglass Solar makes the solar reflector mirrors used in solar power stations.  The mirrors made in Arizona should be going to the Solana Generating Station near Gila Bend.  The energy generated by this plant, when finished, could power up to 70, 000 homes in the Phoenix area.

Construction on the plant is due to start in the latter part of 2010 and should be completed during the year 2011.

Arizona Goes Solar

Luke Air Force Base in Arizona will become home to one of the largest solar arrays in the nation.  This Arizona solar project expect to put 550 people to work, including electricians, civil engineers and construction workers.  The project will take about six months and should be completed by nest summer.  This is one of many projects providing green jobs in Arizona.

SunPower Corp. will be building and maintaining the array that will be owned by Arizona Public Service.  It will consist of 52,000 photovoltaic TO Tracker panels that will use blue anti-reflective coatings with no mirrors.  The use of mirrors might be hazardous to the jets flying overhead.

The panels will be set on a rotating axis system where twenty five percent more energy can be captured than with stationary panels.  The locations close proximity to the city will be a big help also in getting the most power possible to the homes that will be using it.  The less distance the power travels the more of it will reach it's destination.

The total system will be 15 megawatts and will generate enough power to operate 3,750 homes.  More than 19,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions will be eliminated each year.
