Hey folks, it's time to Green New York. It really is, and lots of
people are doing it, but we need more, more people like you to get involved.
This page is to help get more New Yorkers involved in a more sustainable and
environmentally friendly way of life. If you are already there, take a
minute and help to inform others about the many different ways to become a part
of the solution.
An easy way to get out of the house and active is to visit the Earth Day New York site. Learn about all the past Earth Day events in the archive section and see all kinds of upcoming green activities in the events area. There is a section about education and a news letter to sign up for.
The Urban Green site is the place to go for all things green building. Here you will find green builders, green jobs, green laws, green education and just all kinds of green things that pertain to New York.
The Green Guerillas is another local group looking for support, either donations or volunteers. They work to cultivate community gardens and involve our youth in sustainable living practices.
I am a strong advocate for green schools. It has been proven that healthier learning environments result in less absenteeism and higher test scores. Another way to say that healthier kids are smarter kids. The other part of my green school love is not the building but what is being taught. Teaching our children about sustainability is one of the most important subjects we teach. It's true that schools are going green, students are going green, and teachers are going green. This is one of the best areas to get involved and the Green Schools page on the site run by the New York Department Of Environmental Conservation is a good place to start.
Getting active with living green, sustainability and energy conservation is easy, you just get out and do it. We thank you and all of New York will thank you. As you become active you will probably be excited to spread the word and get others involved. Hopefully you will come back here and tell others what you are doing, how you are helping to Green New York.
Tell us about your club, activity or event. Where are you, when do you meet, what are you doing green in your community? Do you have a special event coming up? We would like to do our part to help you get the word out.
