Solar Heat

More uses for solar panels

Solar panels can be used for heating your hot water, the rooms in you home and your swimming pool.  Here we will take a look at the different types of solar heat systems available on the market for the do-it-yourselfer.  If you would prefer just hiring a contractor to take care of your solar needs be sure and let Service Magic help you weed out the bad ones.  As always, this service is free.

Do-it-yourself solar kits can be purchased and installed by anyone fairly handy with tools.  Take a look at these different packages and see if this is something you feel comfortable doing.  If so, there is a lot of money to be saved.

AquaQuik Aboveground Solar Pool Heater This is a new type of solar pool heater designed for use with above ground swimming pools.  This device, by Aqua Quik converts the sun's energy to heat.  Your existing pool pump pushes the water through the system and back into the pool.  The beauty of this solar heat system is the size, you do not need to set aside a large area of yard or roof.

Sungrabber Solar Pool Panels This is a more traditional style of solar water heater, this one being used on an above ground pool.  Larger systems are used for in ground pools as well.  Solar heaters of this type heat the water as it is pumped through the system and is then returned to the pool.  Pumps are needed with this type of system to get the water through the panels and back into the pool.  Smaller units close to the pool work just fine with the power of the existing pool pump.  The panels are hooked up into the pool return line.  Larger systems, or roof top systems, need a separate, dedicated pump to move the water effectively.

A passive system like this is the least expensive way to heat the water in your home, it is also the least effective.  Very few systems will completely replace the need for your regular heater, but the more you supplement the hot water, the less they have to run.  Even a simple system like this will reduce your electric bill, and that's what it is all about, conserving energy any way we can.

You don't have to be a solar expert and you don't have to spend a fortune to use solar power, you just need to get started.

Solar Home Heater This is the type of solar heater that will heat the rooms in your home.  Do-it-yourself solar heat kits like this one range in price from about one to two thousand dollars.  Clicking any image on this page will allow you to read more about the particular products.

With this type of solar system the air is drawn from the room through the bottom of the collector, it is then heated and blown back out through an air duct.  Very much like the solar water heaters, these unit may not completely replace you standard heater, but they will drastically reduce your heating bill.  If your heating bill were cut in half each month a unit like this would not take long at all to pay for itself.
