The students at the University of Oregon have gone green, at least those that use the recreation center. By working out on any of the 20 elliptical machines they are creating electricity that is sold back to the grid. They estimate at least 6,000 kilowatt-hours will be generated every year. It may not be a lot but it’s all good.
It’s an excellent learning tool for the students also, as they follow the path of energy being created, then converted into electricity and sent back to the grid.
Thanks Greg. There are a few of these green workout rooms at campuses around the country. It sounds like the guy that hooked his TV up to his exercise bike. If you wanted to watch the tube someone had to pedal.
